The state of Uttarakhand was formed on November 9, 2000. After its formation, the judicial officers working in the district courts became members of the Uttar Pradesh Judicial Services Association, established in 1923.
On November 9, 2001, the first administrative meeting of the Uttarakhand Judges Association was held at the district court auditorium in Haridwar, where the first executive committee was formed. The first convention of the Association was held on June 12, 2005 at the ONGC auditorium, Dehradun.
From the beginning, the executive committee worked diligently to address challenges faced by judicial officers during the formation of the new state and its judicial infrastructure.
The Association initially had 55 members, which has now grown to 283.
From 2005 onwards, no official convention of the Association had been held. However, the consistent efforts and enthusiasm of judicial officers, along with their interest in resolving professional issues, made it clear that such an association was essential.
In 2024, the Hon’ble Uttarakhand High Court, Nainital, revived the Uttarakhand Judges Association through judicial initiative.
On September 11, 2023, the Hon’ble High Court of Uttarakhand formed a core committee to conduct the Association’s elections. Hon’ble Justice Manoj Tiwari, Senior Judge, High Court of Uttarakhand, was appointed as the observer to guide the process.
After the new office-bearers took charge, various meetings were organized to streamline the Association’s functions. It began focusing on resolving service-related issues, financial welfare, career growth, and retirement concerns.
The Association is also striving to ensure the safety and well-being of its members by securing essential amenities such as proper housing, office infrastructure, internet access, clean drinking water, and healthcare services for judicial officers and their families.
A key priority is to ensure a respectful and dignified professional life for all members.
In today’s fast-changing judicial landscape, a strong and active Association is not just necessary—it is inevitable. The Uttarakhand Judges Association is committed to supporting judicial officers with integrity and dedication.
The Association is also participating in inter-state judicial sports tournaments such as cricket and Unity Cups across six states. These initiatives aim to promote interaction and unity among judicial officers. Additionally, the Association continues to update members on legal developments and welfare initiatives.
In this regard, the Association has taken the commendable initiative of publishing a “Souvenir” to express and document members’ voices, concerns, and aspirations.
Guided by the Hon’ble Chief Justice, the Association is sincerely working to fulfill the housing, workplace, and health needs of judicial officers across Uttarakhand.
The Association is fully committed to building a secure, respectful, and supportive environment for judicial officers and their families. With the continued cooperation of the Hon’ble High Court, it is addressing every challenge faced by the community.
The Uttarakhand Judges Association pledges to remain vigilant, proactive, and deeply committed to the welfare of judicial officers.
